Yea High School student Leigh Redding has been selected in the Australian Under 19 Mens netball team, after success in the Australian National Men’s Netball titles.

Leigh was selected in the Victorian Cyclones state team which played in the championships at the Gold Coast over Easter.

The Cyclones were undefeated in the series and won the final 45-42 against Queensland.

Leigh's first international game will be in the Trans-Tasman Cup which is to be held in Auckland in October.

Another YHS student Aiden Buchanan also played at the Gold Coast in the Under 17 development team.

This famous annual event has been running since 1984. Each year thousands of cyclists of all ages swarm like locusts through country Victoria. They ride together over nine days starting in Lakes Entrance, camping on local sports grounds, eventually finishing in Phillip Island.

Participants ride at their own pace without luggage, enjoying a shared sense of purpose and great views. The camaraderie is wonderful. The sense of satisfaction is unmatched.

Each year students come back from Great Victorian Bike Ride filled with enthusiasm, good spirits and a greater sense of optimism and energy.

Our school is again proposing to join the large number of other school groups and take a group of students on the ride this year. About 1200 Victorian School Students ride each year.

The cost includes GST, all meals, transport to the start, luggage transport each day, first aid support, massage, and entertainment.

General Ride Information Sheet - Yea High School

2012 Great Victorian Bike Ride

“Over fifteen thousand school students have participated in the Great Victorian Bike Ride since its inauguration in 1984”

WHEN: Saturday 24 November – Sunday 2 December 2010
This non-competitive 9-day Ride includes 5 school days and 2 weekends

WHERE: Lakes Entrance to Phillip Island

HOW FAR: Total distance is about 591km (average 70km per day)

How many can go?

Yea High School groups have varied in size. Our last GVBR in 2010 we had 20 students, 3 staff and 7 parents.  We are currently looking at a group of the same number for this year’s ride.

Can parent/guardians come too?
Yes, parent/guardians are encouraged to share this wonderful experience. They can ride (limited number of supervision roles) or volunteer (free!) or both (up to 30% rebate).

How much will it cost? These are 2011 prices, the price hasn’t changed in 3 years so it should be the same/similar.
Secondary Student     $599
Adult/Parent                $735    (Student Ratio’s apply, $835 if outside a 1:3 student ratio)

This includes all meals, luggage transport each day, first aid support, entertainment, and GST. This works out at $66 per day.
