YEA Community House is revamping and expanding its program in 2012 to offer new activities including piano lessons, bike-riding and memoir writing as well as school holiday activities.
Program director Michelle Mussett said the house was particularly excited to introduce piano lessons and a new program would soon be released.
The house enjoyed a new lease of life last April when an interim committee stepped up for its parent body, the Yea Community House Services Group Inc, and worked with the State Government to retain funding for the house’s co-ordinator position.
Under a job-share arrangement, the co-ordinator position was split into an office administrator and program director role.
Group President Leanne Pleash said last year’s program was “about letting people know that the house was operating, and identifying the interests and unmet needs of the Yea district”.
“We had some good wins, with activities that have become regular, such as the fitness program, monthly acoustic jam session, and groups such as chicken chatter, tai chi, craft circle and newcomer afternoon teas,” Ms Pleash said.
“These will continue in 2012. We’re also repeating workshops like the bee keeping (Sunday March 4) and we want to expand what we offer.”
Ms Pleash said the house had learnt more about the community’s needs.
As part of its revamp, the house has a new email address: info@yeahouse.org.au and will soon have its own website.
The Yea Community House Services Group will hold its annual general meeting on Wednesday, March 28 from 7pm and nine committee positions, including four executive positions are open for nominations.
Only YCHSG members are eligible to nominate and vote at the meeting. Membership renewals are to be sent in the coming week.
New membership applications and committee nomination forms are available at the Yea Community House.
These are due by close of business on Tuesday, March 20, and applicants will be notified of their eligibility to vote at the AGM.
